About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coordinate inspection, testing, and maintenance of life safety systems across multiple facilities
- Ensure compliance with NFPA standards and other regulatory requirements
- Coordinate complex repairs and maintain detailed documentation
- Prepare facilities for regulatory surveys and inspections
- Assist the Life Safety Officer with training programs and interim life safety measures for construction and renovations
- Collaborate with contractors, engineering staff, and department heads to identify and resolve life safety deficiencies
- Lead fire and evacuation drills
- Assist with emergency response planning and execution
- Mentor Life Safety Technician 1 and 2 positions and other Engineering staff
- Perform root cause analyses to improve system performance and mitigate risks
- Develop solutions, initiatives, and policies to enhance life safety compliance
- Document work order progress and completion in the work order management system
- Read and interpret building plans, schematics, and equipment manuals
- Troubleshoot, repair, and modify life safety and emergency power systems
- Coordinate with contractors, Construction, and Engineering departments on construction projects
- Report safety-related incidents through the Midas/RDE tool
- Work various shifts as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid AZ Driver’s License with no moving violations for the previous 39 months
- Fire extinguisher training (PASS) and certificate within 90 days of hire
- Fire alarm (code response) training and certificate within 90 days of hire
- CMS QSEP Life Safety Surveyor training and certificate within 90 days of hire
- NFPA 101 Life Safety Code training and certificate within 180 days of hire
- NFPA 25: Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems training and certificate within 180 days of hire
- NFPA 70E: Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace training and certificate within 180 days of hire
- NFPA 72 Health Care Facilities Code training and certificate within 180 days of hire
- NFPA 99 Health Care Facilities Code training and certificate within 180 days of hire
- OSHA 10 Certification, General Workers within 180 days of hire
- Certified Sprinkler ITM Specialist within one year of hire
- Certified Fire Alarm ITM Specialist within one year of hire
- Fire Alarm Technician Certification within one year of hire
- 7 years in life safety, fire protection, or a related technical field
- Understanding of computers and competence in using computers and basic software programs
- 3 years in a healthcare facility preferred
- Preferred: Certified Life Safety Specialist-Health Care, Certified Fire Protection Specialist, OSHA 30 Certification, Certified Health Care Physical Environment Worker
