Key responsibilities & impact
  • Verify and collect patient demographic and insurance information through direct data entry into the electronic medical record
  • Interview patients or authorized representatives to obtain information for requested services
  • Document patient discussions and registration/scheduling activities in the encounter
  • Navigate web-based products and system applications for registration and scheduling
  • Identify patients and enter clinical, demographic, and insurance information accurately
  • Explain scheduled procedures and necessary patient instructions
  • Document patient contact, provider orders, insurance verification, financial education, and payments
  • Explain legal forms and obtain required signatures
  • Apply healthcare compliance standards, including EMTALA and HIPAA privacy/confidentiality regulations
  • Verify insurance carriers, eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements
  • Complete notifications and documentation to secure insurance authorizations
  • Apply basic CPT and ICD-10 diagnosis coding documentation knowledge
  • Educate patients about insurance coverage and financial assistance programs
  • Collect patient financial liabilities and perform payment entry and cash reconciliation
  • Perform PBX switchboard functions, answer and route calls, page codes and fire alarms, and handle assigned call volumes
  • Support clinical departments with registration, scheduling, patient account data entry, provider order requirements, insurance coverage, and financial assistance questions
  • Report safety incidents through the Midas/RDE tool and attend safety training
  • Monitor the work environment for safety issues and complete required training

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED — Required
  • 1 year in a customer service role — Required
  • Understanding of computers and competence using computers and basic software programs
  • Medical Terminology Coursework — Preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) — Preferred
  • 2 years experience in a medical facility, health insurance, or related medical field — Preferred
  • Must complete company mandatory modules and required job-specific training within the specified time frame
  • Must stay current with applicable state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies
  • Must keep certifications and/or licenses up to date and valid if required for the position
