About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare supplies, instruments, sutures, and equipment for surgical interventions
  • Provide technical services and assist with or perform patient procedures within unit-specific competencies
  • Assist the healthcare team during surgical procedures using knowledge of anatomy and physiology
  • Provide safe intraoperative patient care, including specimen handling and medication labeling and handling
  • Anticipate surgeon and patient needs during procedures
  • Maintain, monitor, restock, and appropriately open surgical equipment and supplies
  • Process and communicate provider preferences to the RN
  • Facilitate efficient operating-room turnovers
  • Assist with updating physician preference cards
  • Participate in training and education of new employees and staff on aseptic techniques and processes
  • Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses
  • Report safety incidents and monitor the work environment for safety issues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED — Required
  • Completion of OR Technician education — Preferred
  • BLS certification — Required upon hire
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Tech in Surgery Certified (TS-C), or NCCT — Required
  • Employee must obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for assigned roles
  • 1 year of OR Tech experience or completion of an external tech training program — Required
  • Must work in an inpatient/hospital-based environment
  • Must comply with state and federal regulations, hospital and departmental policies, mandatory modules, and job-specific training
