About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Decontaminate, assemble, inspect, identify, package, distribute, and sterilize surgical instruments
  • Follow established protocols and manufacturers' instructions for use
  • Operate autoclaves and maintain biological and chemical wash solutions
  • Maintain sterilization logs, load records, and biological monitoring records
  • Respond to Operating Room problem calls and perform preliminary investigations
  • Restock, label, maintain inventory, submit requisitions, and distribute instruments, trays, carts, and medical equipment
  • Determine priority of instrumentation and equipment requests and prepare and deliver case carts
  • Report safety incidents and injuries through the Midas/RDE tool and maintain a safe work environment
  • Follow infection control, bloodborne pathogen, contact precaution, regulatory, and organizational standards
  • SPD Tech 2: Precept new employees, manage a surgical specialty's inventory and instrumentation, liaise between Sterile Processing and the Operating Room, support Lead Sterile Processing Techs, and help design and enforce policies
  • Lead SPD Tech: Oversee assigned shifts and staff, manage workflow, communicate with the Operating Room, educate staff, and help design and enforce policies and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED - Required
  • Graduation from an accredited Sterile Processing program or other higher education - Preferred
  • SPD Tech 1: CRCST or CSPDT required within 2 years from date of hire
  • SPD Tech 2: CRCST or CSPDT required
  • Lead SPD Tech: CRCST/CBSPD Certification required
  • CSPM/CHL Certification - Preferred for Lead SPD Tech
  • Certification as an Instrument Specialist - Preferred
  • SPD Tech 1: Recent experience as a Sterile Processing Tech or Surgical Tech - Preferred
  • SPD Tech 2: Recent experience as a Sterile Processing Tech or Surgical Tech - Required
  • Lead SPD Tech: Recent experience as a Sterile Processing Tech or Surgical Tech - Required
  • Previous supervisory experience - Preferred for Lead SPD Tech
  • Understanding of computers and competence using computers and basic software programs
  • Employee must obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for assigned roles
