About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Schedule surgical, obstetric, endoscopy, emergency and state procedures, including pre-admission testing and related pre- and post-procedural appointments
- Enter and verify surgical and anesthesia service documentation in Cerner Scheduling systems, the encounter database, schedule book and iQueue software
- Coordinate equipment, implants, supplies, personnel and related appointments with involved departments and provider/surgeon offices
- Validate implant documentation against vendor invoices and surgery charges; research discrepancies
- Determine billable procedures and supplies and enter accurate charges
- Audit SurgiNet and anesthesia records and coordinate corrections to ensure accurate, timely claims processing
- Manage inventory and logging/billing of wound vacs throughout the hospital
- Assign accurate CDMs using clinical documentation, anatomy and physiology knowledge, and medical terminology
- Review records for completeness, accuracy and regulatory compliance
- Prepare management and clinical team reports and provide confidential administrative support
- Gather, revise and enter departmental statistics and other data
- Perform clerical duties including ordering, keyboarding, scanning, filing, photocopying and transcribing
- Coordinate with Surgical Services, Anesthesia, Pathology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Cath Lab, medical clinics and external vendors
- Greet customers, answer and prioritize administrative calls, retrieve computerized information and respond to inquiries
- Maintain department communication boards, communication devices and document control files
- Report safety incidents, attend safety training and comply with applicable regulations, statutes and company policies
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED - Required
- 2 years hospital, operating room, medical or surgical scheduling comparative experience - Required
- 2 years customer service - Required
- Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology - Required
- Chart Auditing and Coding experience - strongly Preferred
- Microsoft Windows workstation environments and MS Office products experience (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, etc.) - Preferred
- Understanding of computers and competence in using computers and basic software programs
- Ability to keep certifications and/or licenses up-to-date and valid if required for the position
- Completion of company mandatory modules and required job-specific training within the specified time frame
