About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel engines, generators, and related equipment
- Perform general and complex repairs of engines, generators, components, and supporting systems
- Perform major engine repairs, rebuilds, and overhauls according to manufacturer specifications and Company procedures
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions using visual inspections, operational testing, diagnostic equipment, work orders, service information, and other appropriate methods
- Diagnose and repair AC and DC electrical systems, PTO systems, fuel systems, air systems, cooling systems, instruments, gauges, and related components
- Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical instructions, manufacturer specifications, and service bulletins
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and repairs
- Inspect safety devices, guards, and components and make necessary adjustments or repairs
- Identify required parts and materials for assigned repairs
- Tag and process warranty parts
- Stay current with manufacturer technical bulletins and participate in technical and safety training
- Provide technical guidance and assistance to less-experienced technicians
- Assist in developing less-experienced technicians' technical skills and knowledge
- Communicate with customers regarding equipment conditions, service needs, repairs, and service matters
- Develop and maintain positive customer relationships and provide high-quality customer service
- Document labor time, work performed, diagnostic findings, parts used, and other required information in Company systems
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
- Travel to customer locations and remote service sites
- Operate Company vehicles for customer travel and field-service responsibilities
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical or vocational training in diesel technology, power generation, automotive technology, or a related field strongly preferred
- Associate degree in Diesel Technology or a related technical field preferred
- Minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible experience performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of diesel engines, generators, heavy equipment, or comparable systems
- Demonstrated experience with advanced engine diagnostics and troubleshooting required
- Experience performing engine rebuilding, major repairs, or overhauls required
- Demonstrated mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience required
- Advanced knowledge of diesel engine maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair
- Ability to independently diagnose and repair diesel engines, generators, and related mechanical and electrical systems with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical instructions, and manufacturer specifications
- Proficiency with diagnostic equipment, electronic diagnostic systems, repair manuals, service tools, computers, email, maintenance software, and electronic service information
- Valid driver's license and compliance with Company driving requirements
- Ability and willingness to travel, including travel to remote locations
- Ability to safely operate service vehicles, test equipment, and other required equipment
- Ability to work in shop, field, and remote-service environments
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull tools, parts, and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds
- Maintain a complete set of appropriate hand tools in safe and serviceable condition
- Compliance with Company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Successful completion of applicable pre-employment screening, including drug screening and other job-related screening
- Manufacturer-specific training or certifications may be preferred or required based on assigned equipment, work location, or business needs
