About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee Northern Trust’s adherence to applicable payment scheme rulebooks and access requirements
- Serve as a subject area expert on payment scheme rules
- Implement amended and new scheme rules and regulations into processes and procedures
- Map and update regulatory rules
- Ensure procedures demonstrate and evidence payment scheme requirements
- Ensure preventative and detective controls are robust, well designed and operating effectively
- Drive recommendations to strengthen controls
- Participate in and share lessons from central bank working groups
- Review incident reports to confirm root causes and payment scheme impacts are understood, actioned and resolved
- Build and maintain relationships with Control, Resiliency Office, Regulatory Oversight, Risk, Compliance and Audit stakeholders
- Facilitate payment scheme audits and regulatory examinations where applicable
- Manage and work with MI and data sets
- Complete MI and other ad-hoc reports on time
Requirements
What you’ll need- Payment scheme, operations or risk management experience, ideally from a bank, investment bank or custody bank background
- Strong critical thinking and attention to detail
- Ability to deeply understand processes, controls and regulatory or scheme requirements
- Ability to systematically assess and challenge existing processes while managing multiple priorities and delivering to deadlines
- Data-driven mindset using MI and data to measure performance, manage risk and prioritize actions
- Strong Microsoft 365 digital fluency, including SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive and Excel-based MI
- Experience with collaboration practices, control artefacts, checklists and evidence repositories
- Demonstrated AI fluency and applied use of Microsoft 365 Copilot
- Experience building lightweight agents or automations via Copilot agent capabilities, Copilot Studio or similar
- Clear, confident verbal and written communication skills
- Strong stakeholder-management skills and ability to work across business units and geographies
- Knowledge of global payment scheme obligations, including ACH, CHIPS, Federal Reserve services, CHAPS, RITS, T2 and SEPA
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, dynamic and demanding environment
- Relevant industry qualifications or progress towards them are a bonus
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future
