About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop hardware for closed-loop simulation of avionics flight computers on Space Vehicle Flatsat systems
  • Define requirements based on program needs
  • Select hardware to simulate Space Vehicle component data and control interfaces
  • Define testbed harness connections to avionics units and interfaces for simulating Space Vehicle components
  • Test and integrate completed simulation testbeds with avionics units
  • Learn to design and fabricate Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) racks and testbeds
  • Support checkout, integration, and operation of Flatsat testbeds with integrated avionics
  • Design racks, panels, cables, electrical interconnects, and schematics
  • Develop certification procedures
  • Perform hardware checkout and troubleshooting
  • Determine root causes, resolve problems, and document results
  • Interface with subsystem design, flight software, systems engineering, simulation software, procurement, and assembly teams
  • Support Flatsat tasks across the full hardware-in-the-loop lifecycle from conception through design, fabrication, integration, testing, and operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Proficient in understanding schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Familiar with at least one high-speed serial interface protocol: TCP/IP, SPACEWIRE, LVDS, RS422/485, or 1553
  • Familiar with electrical and/or mechanical design tools such as Zuken, Visio, or CREO
  • Able to operate electronic lab equipment such as DMMs and oscilloscopes for debugging and troubleshooting
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently once guidance is provided
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI government clearance
  • Prior experience working on small teams is beneficial
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and abilities
  • Excellent writing, reading, and speaking skills
  • Ability to work in small teams with senior engineering oversight
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely
  • Capable of utilizing Microsoft Office Suite or similar programs
  • U.S. citizenship required for positions with a government clearance and certain other restricted positions
