About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, design, and integrate landing gear on an advanced aircraft
  • Identify existing or conceptual landing gear systems to meet requirements
  • Create 3D models and layouts
  • Perform trade studies analyzing integration of proposed mechanisms onto aircraft
  • Identify key driver variables affecting top-level program requirements
  • Support advanced aircraft design through landing gear system design, hardware selection, placement, preliminary sizing, and initial integration
  • Provide mechanisms design support for drive systems and door uplocks for in-flight door operation
  • Develop landing gear system requirements, system specifications, supplier procurement specifications, and supplier statements of work
  • Create functional architecture and activity diagrams in collaboration with subsystem engineering disciplines
  • Coordinate power, cooling, signal, and structural interfaces for landing gear systems
  • Serve as primary technical interface between NGAS and landing gear supplier subject matter experts
  • Participate in internal program, customer, and supplier technical exchange meetings and formal milestone reviews
  • Provide technical guidance and coordinate with aircraft configuration, structures, subsystems, and supplier management teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant STEM discipline with 5 years of related experience, or Master’s Degree with 3 years, or PhD with 1 year for Principal level
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant STEM discipline with 8 years of related experience, or Master’s Degree with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years for Senior Principal level
  • Prior experience with aircraft landing gear systems and landing gear design
  • Prior experience with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software applications
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and similar industry-standard tools
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP)
  • U.S. Citizenship required for positions with a government clearance
  • Preferred Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
  • Preferred expert knowledge of landing gear placement, loads and preliminary sizing, shock struts, wheel and tire selection, braking systems, retraction and locking systems, and landing gear door sequencing mechanisms
  • Preferred experience with Siemens NX CAD, including NX Motion module
  • Preferred familiarity with landing gear doors, door actuation and locks, and in-flight door opening mechanisms
  • Preferred prior experience leading engineering teams
  • Preferred experience coordinating with multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)
  • Preferred experience with suppliers and supplier coordination
