About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Resolve claim edits and report candidates for billing
  • Submit compliant, clean, complete, accurate claims within filing deadlines
  • Meet productivity, quality, error-ratio, target, and reporting standards
  • Follow up on and collect third-party payer receivables
  • Follow up on denials and appeals, perform root-cause analysis, and pursue payment resolution
  • Correspond compliantly with third-party payers regarding outstanding accounts receivable
  • Support operations for managed care, commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, replacement plans, workers’ compensation, corporate, research, and specialty accounts receivable
  • Review work lists daily and complete accounts ready to be worked
  • Apply government, commercial, and regulatory collection guidelines
  • Recommend contractual or administrative write-offs with justification and documentation
  • Maintain HIPAA privacy compliance
  • Contribute to department accounts-receivable goals
  • Identify customer, system, and process improvement opportunities
  • Follow organizational, departmental, emergency preparedness, Joint Commission, and regulatory procedures
  • Use hospital mainframe, reporting software, external applications, and assigned hardware; report problems appropriately
  • Participate in software testing and verify field integrity
  • Assist with special projects and other assigned duties
  • Attend assigned and approved training and seminars
  • Provide customer service and expertise to patients, guarantors, and internal/external contacts through oral and written communication

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma
  • One year related work experience or college degree
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and billing practices
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of PC applications, including Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Ability to learn quickly and meet continuous timelines
  • Behaviors consistent with principles of excellent service
  • Preferred: Two or more years’ college or college degree
  • Preferred: Call center, telephone work experience or cash collections experience
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Epic Systems
  • Preferred: Two years progressive work experience in a hospital/physician billing or SBO environment
  • Preferred: Detail-oriented, good organizational skills, and ability to be self-directed
  • Preferred: Strong time management skills, managing multiple priorities and a heavy workload in a high-stress atmosphere
  • Preferred: Flexibility to perform other tasks as needed in an active work environment with changing work needs
  • Preferred: High-level problem solving, analytical, and investigational skills
  • Preferred: Excellent internal/external customer service skills
