About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical cardiovascular expertise and support to underwriters for Life insurance, Disability Income and Long-Term Care through thorough analysis of case referrals
- Review provider medical records, test results and courses of treatment
- Provide timely consultations with underwriters and identify when additional medical information is needed
- Screen and interpret EKGs and assess cardiovascular studies, including echocardiograms, stress tests and cardiac MRIs
- Participate under supervision in achieving company mortality and morbidity goals through researching, developing, writing, revising and applying less complex proprietary medical standards
- Communicate risk assessments, rationale, recommendations and reconsiderations to underwriters and technical underwriting consultants
- Uphold underwriting decisions
- Provide medical education and training to new Life, Disability Income and Long-Term Care underwriters
Requirements
What you’ll need- A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in cardiovascular medicine with a bachelor’s degree as a registered nurse
- Experience working in a specialized cardiac unit and/or clinic
- Knowledge of a variety of cardiovascular impairments
- Familiarity with reviewing and evaluating an array of cardiovascular tests
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively with others at all experience levels
- Consistent critical decision-making skills and flexibility in all aspects of work
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility and willingness to change as job duties change
- Willingness to participate in LOMA/ALU and/or other industry programs
- Knowledge of computer functions and experience in a “Windows” environment
- Experience in genetics and or bioinformatics is desirable
