About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conceptualize and create brand systems for new NPR podcasts, programs, products, and properties
  • Develop logos, podcast tiles, key art, typography, color palettes, brand patterns, brand guidelines, social media templates, and brand kit packages
  • Reimagine existing NPR editorial property brands, particularly podcasts, for younger and more diverse audiences
  • Develop brand families and hierarchies aligned with the NPR parent brand
  • Collaborate with copywriters to conceptualize campaign visions
  • Create original graphics, copy, content websites, social media, and other marketing materials
  • Develop campaign art direction and creative concepts
  • Build digital and social ads, Apple/Spotify art, illustrations, animations, video slates, outdoor art, photography, and graphic systems
  • Use audience research and user testing to adapt creative work
  • Contribute to team brainstorms and develop ideas beyond visual design
  • Partner with copywriters on brand directions and campaign visions
  • Create visual styles based on audience data, creative briefs, project requirements, and limitations
  • Prioritize workloads and deliver high-quality work within budgets and deadlines
  • Present creative concepts and designs to NPR and public radio network stakeholders
  • Ensure final graphics and layouts meet brand standards and remain consistent across brands and campaigns

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • All applicants must submit an online portfolio and include it in the application and résumé
  • Bachelor's degree, Design degree, or equivalent in work experience
  • 8–10 years of experience in graphic design and digital advertising
  • Expertise in branding, typography, key art, illustration, digital design, campaign creation, and social media design
  • Experience creating motion graphics and animation, or willingness to learn
  • Strong grasp of advertising best practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly evolving, news-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision of a design/creative director
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail and visual aesthetics
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, required
  • Keynote and PowerPoint experience required
  • Must be within commuting distance of Washington, D.C. or New York City
  • Must work in the office at least 3 days per week
  • Experience working closely with copywriters preferred
  • Working knowledge of Premiere and/or After Effects is a plus
