About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tools, manuals and guidelines
- Support implementation of the WASH programme portfolio in accordance with the action plan
- Independently implement procedures and activities within delegated authority
- Organize and carry out tasks in line with priorities and standards
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialized area of work
- Resolve day-to-day issues in accordance with procedures and priorities
- Prepare and develop reports required by management
- Ensure documents are properly filed
- Prepare technical drawings, bills of quantities and cost estimates for WASH infrastructure works
- Facilitate, supervise and organize the construction, rehabilitation and installation of WASH infrastructure
- Support capacity building for workers and local communities
- Conduct physicochemical and bacteriological analyses of water facilities and installations
- Collect and share weekly evidence and sources of verification for WASH installations
- Track the procurement of goods and services for HARD WASH activities and provide feedback to the manager
- Contribute to needs assessments, targeting, and data collection or supervision
- Support local partners in implementing HARD WASH activities
- Contribute to Safe and Inclusive Programming (SIP) and follow up on NEAT+ recommendations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Professional experience in the WASH technical field, preferably with a focus on construction-related aspects
- Demonstrated experience with an NGO, preferably an international organization, in an emergency humanitarian context, including displacement sites
- Willingness and ability to travel and work regularly in the field and in complex, volatile contexts
- Fluency in written and spoken French and proficiency in Swahili
- Proficiency in the local languages of the area of intervention
- At least a bachelor’s-level engineering degree (equivalent to three years of higher education) in civil engineering, rural engineering, hydraulics, public works, or a related field
- In-depth knowledge of the humanitarian context in the assigned territories and health zones
- Knowledge of relevant standards, particularly SPHERE standards
- Demonstrated knowledge of water quality and treatment
- Experience with participatory methodologies for working with communities on construction projects and managing teams
- Demonstrated proficiency in technical drawing software (CAD), such as AutoCAD, SketchUp and ArchiCAD, and engineering calculation software, such as EPANET and Robot Structural Analysis, as well as office software, particularly Excel and Word
- Strong activity planning and monitoring skills
- Knowledge of mapping and GIS software, such as QGIS, is desirable
- Ability to operate in insecure environments
