About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene activities through technical, administrative and organizational support
  • Ensure compliance with NRC policies, tools, manuals and guidelines
  • Assist with implementation of the WASH programme portfolio in accordance with the action plan
  • Independently implement procedures and activities within the scope of the role, in line with delegated responsibilities
  • Organize and carry out tasks according to priorities and standards
  • Develop and maintain the specialized knowledge required to effectively support the team
  • Resolve day-to-day issues in accordance with procedures, priorities and standards
  • Prepare reports required by management and ensure proper filing of documents
  • Facilitate and supervise community mobilization, behavior change interventions and WASH kit distributions
  • Support the establishment, training and monitoring of local WASH management structures
  • Contribute to identifying needs and to the design and implementation of KAP, WASH’Em and barrier analysis assessments
  • Participate in defining WASH behavior change themes, messages, approaches and tools according to target groups
  • Collect and share weekly evidence of soft WASH activities
  • Monitor the procurement of goods and services and provide continuous feedback to the manager on quality
  • Contribute to needs assessments and participant targeting, and collect data or supervise data collection
  • Support local partners in implementing activities and communicate regularly regarding the quality of work and collaboration
  • Contribute to data collection and complete checklists related to Safe and Inclusive Programming (SIP) and environmental screening (NEAT+)

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Professional experience in WASH technical expertise, particularly community mobilization, awareness-raising and community capacity strengthening, is preferred
  • Experience with an NGO, preferably an international organization, in an emergency humanitarian context, including displacement sites
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work regularly in the field, including complex and volatile contexts
  • Fluency in written and spoken French
  • Fluency in Swahili and the local languages of the area of operation
  • At least a university degree equivalent to three years of higher education (Bachelor’s level) in social sciences, local development, public health/health promotion, anthropology or a related field
  • In-depth knowledge of the humanitarian context in the assigned territories and health zones
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, particularly SPHERE
  • Proven knowledge of behavior change theory and approaches
  • Experience with participatory methodologies for working with communities and community mobilization
  • Proven knowledge and experience in community capacity strengthening
  • Strong activity planning and monitoring skills
  • Knowledge of software for qualitative data interpretation and analysis is preferred
  • Ability to work in insecure environments
  • Ability to cope with stress in a challenging environment
  • Respect for and promotion of individual and cultural differences
