About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the availability model of record for each generation campus across generation, electrical distribution, fuel supply, and cooling
  • Allocate committed SLA targets through systems, including availability budgets, redundancy requirements, MTTR assumptions, sparing, and maintenance strategies
  • Apply Monte Carlo simulation or closed-form analytical models as appropriate and defend the methodology
  • Identify common-mode and dependent failures, including shared fuel, cooling, controls, and site-wide events
  • Report single-path and contracted-capacity availability views with sensitivity analysis
  • Own the FMEA/FMECA program for engines, generators, BESS, switchgear, transformers, fuel gas systems, and cooling infrastructure
  • Curate failure-rate and repair data from IEEE 493, OREDA, OEM sources, and field data
  • Influence redundancy configuration, single-point-of-failure treatment, equipment selection, testability, and maintainability requirements
  • Integrate reliability analysis into design reviews, HAZOPs, and vendor evaluations
  • Own the reliability core of Nscale’s digital twin, including model architecture, data structures, and analytical methods
  • Define operational data requirements for event capture, failure coding, downtime attribution, and run-hour tracking
  • Work with software and data teams to create instrumented, queryable, automatable, and auditable RAM tooling
  • Establish feedback loops between measured availability and model predictions, including recalibration and reliability-growth tracking
  • Support commissioning and startup through burn-in and reliability-run design, failure tracking, and model-based acceptance criteria
  • Lead or support root-cause analyses and drive corrective actions into designs, models, and standards
  • Develop reliability engineering standards, methods, and reference models
  • Direct RAM and reliability consultants and challenge their methodologies and deliverables
  • Coordinate with reliability, operations, commissioning, electrical, controls, mechanical, and pipeline engineering teams
  • Build internal reliability engineering capability and communicate analysis, confidence, sensitivity, and risk to leadership and executives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of reliability engineering experience on power generation, process, or mission-critical facilities, including significant ownership of RAM analysis for large, redundant systems
  • Deep RAM modeling capability using discrete-event simulation (BlockSim, Raptor, or equivalent) and closed-form analytical methods
  • Proven FMEA/FMECA leadership on major rotating, electrical, or process equipment
  • Fluency with IEEE 493, OREDA, IEEE 3006 series, or similar failure data sources and their limitations
  • Experience allocating availability targets from commercial commitments to systems and defending analysis to executives, customers, or insurers
  • Knowledge of common-mode and dependent failure mechanisms
  • Python or similar scripting capability and reliability-data structuring for automation
  • Experience integrating reliability analysis into live design processes on major capital projects
  • Ability to run a scope with minimal oversight
  • Exposure to digital twin, telemetry-driven reliability, or operational availability measurement programs is a strong advantage
  • CRE certification or equivalent is an advantage
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Reliability Engineering, or related field
  • PE license or CRE preferred
  • Willing and able to travel regularly to project sites and vendor facilities, typically 15–25% and higher during commissioning campaigns
