Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Eighteen years of age
  • Citizen of the United States
  • Current/active Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Jailers License (TCOLE)
  • Required Law Enforcement Civil Service Exam (LECSE)
  • Attach High School Diploma/GED and Driver's License/State Identification Card
  • Consent to a criminal background check
  • Maintain TCOLE certification as a Corrections Officer
  • Driving record must meet County and insurance carrier standards for official business driving
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate rates, ratios, and percentages
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
  • Ability to maintain control in highly stressful situations
  • Ability to learn laws, departmental policies, rules, regulations, instructions, and correctional literature
  • Ability to write clear, concise reports and maintain complete records
  • Ability to meet established physical standards
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
