About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare, check, and review reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, Scopes of Work, and other design and ASME Code deliverables
  • Design NSSS mechanical components including valves, control rod drive mechanisms, pressurizer heaters, electrical penetration assemblies, instrument penetration assemblies, and Passive Autocatalytic Recombiners
  • Establish mechanical, electrical, and process interface requirements with system and interfacing component design engineers
  • Provide technical oversight of vendor scopes, including proposal and deliverable reviews and support for meetings and key witness points
  • Support proof-of-concept and component qualification testing
  • Collaborate with NuScale Licensing on domestic and international regulatory efforts and licensing scope
  • Coordinate design activities and resolve technical problems with coworkers and multidisciplinary teams
  • Acquire, maintain, and develop training qualifications
  • Adhere to NuScale safety culture and quality assurance requirements, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Report to the Manager, NSSS Appurtenance Design

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, from a four-year ABET-accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time, relevant professional experience
  • PE license in Mechanical Engineering desirable but not required
  • Good communication, computer, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Solid technical writing skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage projects with multiple work phases
  • Working knowledge of ASME Codes and Standards and 10 CFR 50
  • Knowledge or experience with IEEE 323, 344, 317, 383, 384, and 741
  • Nuclear utility or plant design experience and knowledge
  • NSSS component design, inspection, and testing experience, particularly electrical interface components
  • Experience resolving complex and multidisciplinary design issues
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using phones, personal interaction, and computers
  • Ability to learn new job functions and apply new concepts accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
