About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Report to the manager for product development and participate in a high-impact team reporting to the CTO
  • Develop NuScale’s microreactor technology for research reactor and commercial distributed power and heat applications
  • Perform mechanical design of systems and components
  • Develop conceptual designs for systems and components
  • Support design trade studies
  • Perform thermo-mechanical design analysis for static stress, fatigue, and creep using analytical and computational methods
  • Perform product cost modeling
  • Support instrumentation selection and instrumentation design integration
  • Support system and component design development for test facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Adhere to corporate safety culture and model safe behavior
  • Support quality assurance implementation
  • Travel nationally and locally as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Minimum 5 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience in mechanical design of systems and components
  • Expertise with structural analysis using ANSYS
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
  • Knowledge and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards, and guidelines, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
  • Ability to communicate clearly using phones, personal interaction, and computers
  • Ability to learn new job functions and understand and apply new concepts quickly
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, use office equipment, and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately without creating a significant safety threat
