About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist in developing software models supporting the NuScale control room simulator
  • Collaborate with NuScale operators and engineers
  • Update plant models according to engineering documentation
  • Support development, testing, and operation of the control room simulator and other software projects
  • Develop software according to NuScale procedures and processes while maintaining configuration control
  • Document software defects using issue-tracking software
  • Recommend solutions for software errors and identify common-cause issues affecting performance
  • Solve problems using professional operational principles and company objectives
  • Work under consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with team members to vet solutions and deliver high-quality deliverables
  • Set up and maintain hardware, including installing computers and monitors and connecting cables
  • Travel occasionally to locations outside Corvallis as needed
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum B.S. degree in physics, engineering, or another technical discipline from an accredited college or university
  • ABET-accredited engineering program preferred
  • Five or more years of professional software development experience or internship preferred
  • Five or more years of demonstrable software deliverables focused on modeling and simulator development preferred
  • Experience with thermal hydraulic and neutronic analysis software highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code required
  • Working knowledge of Git required
  • Experience with GitLab or GitHub
  • Experience developing software in Fortran, C++, and/or Python
  • Experience with thermal hydraulic system codes such as RELAP5 and TRACE
  • Experience with neutronic analysis codes such as Simulate 3 and MCNP
  • Understanding of basic thermal hydraulic engineering principles
  • Understanding of numerical methods for coupled partial differential equations associated with fluid flow and heat transfer
  • Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings
  • Experience with GSE simulation software such as SimExec, JTopmeret, and JElectric
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using phones, computers, and personal interaction
