About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the Test Engineering Manager
  • Develop and execute test programs, primarily through contracted resources, supporting the design, certification, manufacture and commercial deployment of the NuScale Microreactor
  • Conduct technology maturation and risk reduction, technology demonstrations, and qualification of reactor structures, systems, components and instrumentation
  • Plan, develop and execute proof-of-concept, component, performance, functional, compliance, reliability and environmental qualification tests
  • Identify suitable metallography and materials characterization methods for materials development and testing
  • Participate in test planning, test specification development and review, supplier test procedure approval, test execution oversight, data review and data acceptance
  • Manage small projects and oversee test project progression through supplier evaluation, contract execution, design, implementation, testing, reporting, data acceptance and contract closeout
  • Prepare test program budgets, schedules, resource requirements, statements of work, requests for quote, test specifications and test reports
  • Lead and review design drawings, sketches, schematics, procedures, results, reports and documentation
  • Lead test hardware design reviews for small projects and resolve review comments
  • Analyze test data and validation efforts utilizing test data
  • Organize data sets from test programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum B.S. degree in Material Science, Mechanical, Nuclear or Chemical Engineering from a four-year accredited college or university
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Experience in executing, developing and managing testing programs for materials, fluid, mechanical or electro-mechanical hardware or devices desired
  • Knowledge of and experience with refractory metals and high temperature applications preferred, greater than 800 °C
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
  • Understanding and implementation of quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1
  • Ability to understand and communicate clearly using a phone, personal interaction, and computers
  • Ability to learn new job functions and comprehend and understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Ability to sit and stand; walk; bend; use hands to operate office equipment; and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to travel nationally and locally using common forms of transportation
  • Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately without causing significant safety threat to self or others
