Key responsibilities & impact

Provide assessment, treatment, education and counseling to adult inpatients with swallowing and communication impairments
Support subacute and acute stroke patient populations
Support subacute and acute medicine and rehabilitation adult populations within Markham Stouffville Hospital
Participate in ongoing program development and quality improvement activities
Work as a member of the interprofessional team
Work Monday, alternating Wednesdays, and rotating weekends, subject to operational needs

Requirements

What you’ll need

Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology
Current registration with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario
Preference will be given to candidates with at least 2 years recent experience with dysphagia and communication disorders in a subacute and/or acute medical environment (ALC, general medicine, neurology, and stroke rehab patient populations)
BLS Certification is required
Proficiency with videofluoroscopic swallow studies; MBSImP certification
Recent experience with treatment/management of speech, language, and cognitive communication disorders
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development
Demonstrated good attendance and performance records
Commitment to a healthy and safe workplace and compliance with hospital policies, health and safety legislation, best practices, and mandatory education requirements
