About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Manage, deliver and develop technology policy workstreams day to day
Work closely with senior overseeing colleagues
Develop and draft policy products relating to critical technology policy issues, including policy consultation materials
Support efforts to promote regulatory compliance among regulated services
Lead drafting of outputs such as code of practice measures and external discussion papers
Lead cross-functional teams and task manage others as appropriate
Present arguments for and against policy positions, including recommendations, to internal governance bodies
Communicate evidence and policy positions to internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, through presentations, briefings, research reports and other means
Build productive relationships with experts and thought leaders in academia, industry, civil society, government and regulation
Contribute to the culture of the Technology Policy team and wider Online Safety Group
Develop policy products and coherent policy positions that uphold online services’ safety duties while accounting for technical limitations and proportionality
Build consensus with internal and external stakeholders while refining regulatory outputs

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience analysing and shaping policy positions on emerging technology issues
Strong understanding of relevant regulatory and policy frameworks
Track record of independently designing, overseeing and executing projects on time and to an outstanding standard
Experience drafting high-quality, robust, accessible and evidence-led written outputs, such as policy papers
Excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to explain complex technical, legal and policy concepts to specialist and non-specialist audiences
Strong interpersonal skills and capacity to work across organisational boundaries
Ability to build trust and drive collaboration across diverse teams and disciplines
Sound judgement and ability to weigh available evidence and make recommendations aligned with Ofcom’s strategic priorities
Experience task managing others and fostering colleagues’ development
No formal qualifications are required
Deep subject matter expertise in areas such as content recommender systems, AI assurance and auditing techniques, generative AI, encryption and/or content moderation technologies is particularly suited to the role
