About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee and implement prevention, assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and counseling of athletic injuries and conditions within scope of practice
  • Review, obtain, and order diagnostic studies under physician direction
  • Obtain thorough patient histories, including injury details, medical/surgical history, allergies, and medication reconciliation
  • Perform physical examinations, including strength, range of motion, sensation, palpation, functional, and special testing
  • Construct and provide rehabilitation education on range of motion, stretching, strengthening, posture, and body mechanics
  • Provide ongoing education to patients and families
  • Assist physicians with in-office procedures by preparing patients and assisting with procedures
  • Generate orders for advanced imaging, physician referrals, and physical therapy referrals
  • Remove post-operative dressings, sutures, and staples and provide aseptic wound care
  • Remove and apply upper and lower extremity splints/casts
  • Measure, fit, and educate patients on durable medical equipment, gait training, and assistive devices
  • Triage patient messages, including clinical questions, medication requests, prior authorizations, and post-operative calls
  • Coordinate or perform scheduling and rescheduling of appointments, consultations, testing, and procedures
  • Obtain accurate patient vital signs
  • Complete required patient-care documentation according to OSUWMC standards and guidelines
  • Collect and process point-of-care tests, venipuncture, and other laboratory specimens
  • Assist with surgery and pursue Orthopedic Technologist certification

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Licensure by the State of Ohio Occupational, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training Board
  • Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree from an Athletic Training Education Program
  • Previous experience working with athletic populations and/or experience working in an orthopedic/sports medicine physician clinic preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
