About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality, accurate, and compassionate care to a diverse patient population
- Take patient histories and prepare patients for physician appointments
- Interact professionally and compassionately with patients
- Perform diagnostic visual field testing using Humphrey, Octopus, and Goldman Fields
- Perform ophthalmic imaging including OCT, HRT, pachymetry, topography, IOL Master, specular microscopy, and manual A-scans
- Enter patient information into the Electronic Medical Record
- Transport patients within the facility to additional departments
- Assist with rooming patients
- Stock and disinfect examination rooms
- Assist physicians and ophthalmic technicians in the Ophthalmology clinic
- Document medical history, symptoms, complaints, and medications
- Perform diagnostic testing including visual acuity eye exams, lensometry, keratometry, refractometry, and tonometry
- Instruct patients on proper eyecare
- Adhere to regulations regarding drug samples and drug sample logs
- Ensure medication and supply expiration dates are current
- Perform related patient services and other duties or special projects as assigned
- Travel to other clinical facilities may be required to accommodate staffing levels
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Ophthalmic Assistant criteria
- One year of prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant, or two years of prior experience as a technician in an Optometry Clinic, or successful completion of OSUP’s Ophthalmic Personnel Training Program
- COA or COT certification preferred
- Ability to perform diagnostic visual field testing using Humphrey, Octopus, and Goldman Fields
- Clinical competence with OCT, HRT, pachymetry, topography, and IOL Master
- Ability to enter information into an Electronic Medical Record
- Ability to perform visual acuity eye exams, lensometry, keratometry, refractometry, and tonometry
- Ability to obtain ophthalmic imaging including OCT, topography, pachymetry, specular microscopy, manual A-scans, and IOL Master
- Ability to travel to other clinical facilities as required to accommodate staffing levels
