About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the EEA legal function and provide strategic legal and regulatory guidance for OKX’s European entity
- Support OKX’s business expansion in the EEA and licensing and legal efforts to expand into the U.K. market
- Serve as the primary legal point of contact for the OKX EEA entity
- Work closely with the EEA CEO and key stakeholders while reporting into the Global Legal team
- Serve as a member of the EU management team and represent the legal function at relevant Board and committee meetings
- Represent OKX in relevant industry associations and promote OKX’s viewpoint in consultation efforts
- Support product development, regulatory matters, IP and trademark enforcement, corporate governance, licensing, token listings, contract negotiation, compliance legal support, institutional sales and partnerships, and marketing and advertising
- Analyze and advise on legal risk of new and existing digital assets and manage the legal component of the new asset review process
- Lead and manage lawyers covering the EEA
- Collaborate with product and business development teams on company-wide projects and goals
- Manage legal requests across the business and advise on legal concepts and risks aligned with strategic business goals
- Spend a minimum of 50% of the time working from OKX’s Malta-based office
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong communication and leadership skills, and excellent judgment
- Self-starter who can contribute as both an individual and a team member, with limited reliance upon external counsel
- Law degree at a top-tier law school and qualified to practice law in the EEA
- 14+ years of legal experience at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal team, preferably in the cryptocurrency/digital assets and/or financial services industry
- Experience advising on digital asset and blockchain technology legal issues and strong understanding of the relevant legal and regulatory landscape
- Experience working with EU regulators and maintaining EU financial services and/or crypto exchange licenses
- Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, growth-stage and multi-cultural environment
- Ability to effectively advise and build trust with business teams
- Ability to navigate through a rapidly-changing legal landscape and deal with legal ambiguity
- Ability to work in a high-functioning legal team and feel comfortable in a collaborative working environment
- Experience working on cross-jurisdictional matters and a global legal team
