About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and direct day-to-day operations of the plant production department
- Ensure high quality finished products and high performance of production equipment
- Maintain safe working conditions and practices to achieve zero lost-time injuries
- Perform duties according to QSHE Manual procedures
- Provide leadership and employee training
- Conduct performance appraisals and apply fair, consistent disciplinary practices
- Report accurate payroll and employee information to Human Resources
- Coordinate and schedule production equipment operating hours and personnel activities to meet customer requirements
- Maintain finished-product inventory control
- Ensure production equipment operates at optimum performance for quality, productivity and cost objectives
- Drive continuous improvement efforts
- Communicate equipment maintenance requests and follow up on completion
- Supervise procedures ensuring production inventory accuracy for product, quality and quantity
- Generate production, equipment-rate, runtime and downtime reports
- Support preventive maintenance and repair scheduling
- Ensure process equipment complies with federal, state and local regulations
- Maintain adequate consumable-item inventory levels
- Perform the Manager's duties when the Manager is absent, including attending daily staff meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Baccalaureate degree in mining, mechanical, electrical or civil engineering or a commensurate level of education and experience
- Basic knowledge of mineral grinding, crushing and packaging equipment
- Ability to comprehend all aspects of industrial manufacturing and solve process-related problems
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- General management skills
- Ability to work effectively with supervisors, other department managers and subordinates
- Familiarity with personal computers and application software, including automatic process control
- Ability to integrate existing methods with new innovations to solve production problems economically and promptly
- Must be able to work swing shifts as needed to cover vacations and unplanned production situations without notice
