About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work 7 AM to approximately 4 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Perform weekend and after-hours work as needed
  • Respond to utility marking requests sent through the Virginia One Call System (VA811) on behalf of utility customers
  • Work independently throughout the day
  • Interact daily with homeowners, excavators, and utility personnel
  • Access marking requests and utility facility records/plans using an internet-enabled laptop
  • Interpret records and use utility locating equipment to accurately mark the horizontal location of underground facilities
  • Document completed markings in the online ticket management system
  • Adhere to company policies and customer regulations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • No experience required
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to come to work every day
  • Ability to take direction and training
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Background check before employment
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Able to work outside in all weather
  • Familiarity with computers
  • Able to navigate a computer file system
  • Reading comprehension skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Able to participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet daily deadlines
  • Successfully complete the in-house training program
  • Able to walk on varying terrain, including roadside and construction areas
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally to access manholes and valve pits
  • Open to applicants without a high school diploma/GED
  • Open to applicants without a college diploma
