About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive the overall direction of the 2D department
  • Manage projects as a whole and collaborate with other 2D Supervisors in London to develop the 2D team
  • Drive the creative and look development process alongside VFX and CG Supervisors
  • Manage and supervise compositors, brief them and provide constructive feedback
  • Ensure consistency and develop production methodologies, creative approaches and problem-solving practices
  • Manage production workflow and pipeline
  • Manage production bidding for current and future projects
  • Schedule work closely with production
  • Review and finalise frames before submission
  • Attend client reviews and lead daily reviews with the Compositing team
  • Communicate client notes and guide artists
  • Solve technical and artistic compositing challenges
  • Guide the long-term goals of the 2D department, including team growth and 2D pipeline development
  • Provide on-set VFX supervision for 2D-based projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Work closely with production to schedule work
  • Strong eye for detail and ability to identify and fix issues in shots
  • Ability to direct tasks to junior, mid and senior level artists
  • Responsibility for team quality and reviewing/finalising frames before submission
  • Ability to understand, interpret and address technical notes
  • Proactive and collaborative work with VFX and support departments
  • Attend client reviews and lead daily reviews with the Compositing team
  • Communicate client notes and provide feedback and instructions to artists
  • Balance creative and technical aspects of shots/sequences while meeting quality standards
  • Solve difficult technical and artistic compositing challenges
  • Leadership in long-term 2D department goals, team building and 2D pipeline development, including stereoscopic projects
  • On-set VFX supervision for 2D-based projects
  • Knowledge of Python scripting useful but not essential
  • Basic working knowledge of Maya and Photoshop is a plus
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Previous experience in a leadership role
  • Excellent communication skills with the immediate team and other VFX pipeline departments
  • Deep understanding of film VFX processes and pipeline
  • Expert user of Nuke
  • Critical eye for detail
  • Highly organised
  • 40 contracted hours per week, with core hours 10:00am–17:30pm Monday to Friday
  • Required to work from the London office at least 2 days per week
