About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Drive the overall direction of the 2D department
- Manage projects and collaborate with other 2D Supervisors in London to develop the 2D team
- Drive the creative and look development process alongside VFX and CG Supervisors
- Manage and supervise compositors, brief them, and provide constructive feedback
- Ensure consistency and develop production methodologies, creative approaches, and problem-solving solutions
- Manage production workflow, pipeline, and production bidding for current and future projects
- Schedule work closely with production
- Direct tasks across junior, mid-level, and senior artists
- Review and finalise frames before submission
- Attend client reviews and lead daily compositing-team reviews
- Communicate client notes and feedback to artists
- Solve technical and artistic compositing challenges
- Guide the longer-term goals of the 2D department, including team building and 2D pipeline development
- Provide on-set VFX supervision for 2D-based projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Work closely with production to schedule work
- Strong eye for detail and ability to identify and fix issues in shots
- Ability to direct junior, mid-level, and senior artists
- Responsibility for team quality and reviewing/finalising frames before submission
- Ability to understand and address technical notes
- Proactive and collaborative approach with VFX and support departments
- Ability to attend client reviews and lead daily compositing reviews
- Ability to communicate client notes and provide feedback and instructions to artists
- Ability to balance creative and technical aspects while meeting quality standards
- Ability to solve difficult technical and artistic compositing challenges
- Leadership capability for long-term 2D department goals, team building, and 2D pipeline development
- On-set VFX supervision experience for 2D-based projects
- Python scripting knowledge useful but not essential
- Basic working knowledge of Maya and Photoshop is a plus
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems
- Previous experience in a leadership role
- Excellent communication skills with the immediate team and other VFX pipeline departments
- Deep understanding of film VFX processes and pipeline
- Expert user of Nuke
- Critical eye for detail
- Highly organised
