About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Establish direction and promote consistent environmental compliance across the Refined Product and Crude segment
- Lead regulatory engagement from initiation through resolution
- Independently direct audits and corrective actions
- Apply technical judgment to address compliance matters while supporting business objectives and regulatory credibility
- Promote accountability across cross-functional teams and translate complex environmental challenges into actionable strategies
- Provide experienced leadership during time-critical situations
- Mentor and train lower-level employees on compliance systems, requirements, procedures, and tools
- Evaluate data collection tools and templates to improve environmental compliance and remediation data quality
- Provide subject matter expertise on compliance requirements and operating and construction parameters
- Develop internal audit protocols for facility evaluations
- Lead evaluation and implementation of major emerging regulatory issues
- Represent company positions in national industry associations and support the company Regulatory Issue Guideline
- Analyze and develop corporate positions on environmental regulation applicability to operating assets and construction projects
- Apply risk-based compliance analysis and resolve regulatory applicability issues
- Develop procedures, tools, and compliance systems for operating assets and construction projects
- Review environmental inspection results and enhance operating, project execution, or corporate compliance systems
- Negotiate with contract and consultant resources regarding program-level support and service rates
- Develop permitting strategies and review major permits
- Coordinate and facilitate environmental permitting before, during, and after construction
- Manage compliance systems for an entire program or business segment and implement system enhancements
- Develop training for new compliance-system users
- Manage and participate in agency interaction and negotiate segment- or corporate-level compliance and enforcement issues
- Collect and review air, water, and waste field samples for analysis
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in environmental, natural science, or engineering preferred and/or a combination of formal education and related job experience
- Typically 10 or more years of related experience in environmental compliance
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and standards and their applicability to operations
- Ability to analyze, research, compile, and prepare permit applications, logs, reports, correspondence, and company responses to agency requests
- Ability to evaluate, research, and interpret governmental regulations, equipment performance manuals, regulatory agency guidance and instructions, reports, correspondence, and company policies and procedures
- Ability to pay attention to details
- Ability to apply math, algebraic formulas, and statistics
- Ability to interact, advise and communicate effectively, exchange information/provide instructions, and conduct verbal presentations
- Ability to develop communications utilizing fundamental technical writing skills
- Ability to present training materials
- Ability to utilize office equipment including computers and applicable job related software, including Microsoft Office tools
- Ability to operate relevant tools/equipment
- Travel to other locations required
