About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze and/or prepare complex reports and records related to daily mark-to-market P/L variance, volumetric positions, hedge strategies and Value at Risk (VaR)
  • Provide management with explanations of major variances and analytics to support business decisions
  • Collaborate with front and back office to quantify and analyze transaction risks
  • Ensure proper deal capture, valuation, accounting, and compliance with risk management policies
  • Develop and maintain complex hedging strategies and sophisticated models for commodity risk mitigation
  • Provide analysis and recommendations for acceptable hedge instruments and practices
  • Prepare back tests, scenario analysis, stress tests and performance analysis
  • Use statistical modeling to forecast commodity price changes and monitor macroeconomic market conditions
  • Monitor, control and report daily transaction activity from financial and physical desks
  • Update and validate market price curves daily
  • Use Risk System software to maintain physical and financial obligations and prepare mark-to-market position reports
  • Work with trading, accounting and contract administration teams to ensure accurate processing of financial trading activities
  • Collaborate with IT to design, validate, implement, troubleshoot and maintain system solutions for positions and P&L reporting

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, economics, mathematics or related field with job-related experience
  • Master's Degree in accounting, finance, economics, mathematics preferred
  • Experience performing detailed financial analysis and modeling of complex commodity trading activities
  • Experience and/or training related to accounting standards and supporting documentation
  • Experience and/or training related to trading policies and practices
  • Knowledge of commodity markets and financial derivative instruments such as forwards, futures, swaps and options
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical and data modelling techniques utilizing MatLab, R and Python
  • Knowledge of risk management methodologies and Monte Carlo simulations
  • Knowledge of risk measures
  • UI Path automation software a plus
  • Microsoft Excel required
  • Ability to apply complex mathematical concepts, including algebraic formulas, statistical methods, calculus and derivative pricing models
  • Ability to grasp and accurately communicate complex transactions, strategies and models to varying organization levels
  • Ability to mine, manipulate, interpret and analyze large data sets across multiple applications
  • Ability to communicate and/or exchange information and instructions
  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements, professional accounting standards, trading policies, contracts, agreements, computer printouts, industry publications, reports and correspondence
