About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build substantial, interactive features inside an existing enterprise product without disrupting embedded workflows
Implement meaningful data visualizations including line charts, comparison tables, and range indicators
Build filtering and comparison controls that update complex views in real time
Implement loading, error, empty, and insufficient-data states
Build and extend Ruby on Rails APIs and consume APIs built by the architecture team
Collaborate closely with design and raise discrepancies rather than approximating
Ensure features load asynchronously without blocking or slowing workflows
Build for accessibility and cross-browser consistency
Instrument features to measure feature usage
Write behavioral tests, including tests for degraded cases
Deliver end-to-end features from API to interface across Onit's enterprise legal operations platform
Partner with design, product, and architecture teams, focusing on edge cases, performance, accessibility, and test coverage

Requirements

What you’ll need

6+ years building production web applications, with significant frontend ownership and hands-on backend development
Strong backend experience with Ruby on Rails, including building and modifying APIs, data models, and services
Strong proficiency with a modern JavaScript framework: React, Angular, or Vue
Solid JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals, including rendering and state management
Experience building data-dense interfaces such as charts, tables, dashboards, or comparison views where presentation accuracy matters
Experience working inside large existing codebases and avoiding regressions
Care for edge cases, empty states, and error handling, backed by automated tests such as RSpec and frontend testing frameworks
Strong collaboration with designers and product managers; asks clarifying questions before building
Working proficiency with AI coding tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot, with the judgment to review and validate AI-generated code before release
