About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support hydraulic and hydrologic modelling for flood studies, floodplain mapping, river engineering, watercourse crossings, stormwater, and water management projects
- Assist with flood, erosion, scour, geomorphic, and other hydrotechnical assessments
- Support design and assessment of watercourse crossings, hydraulic structures, river engineering works, natural channels, and stream restoration projects
- Support stormwater and drainage assessments and designs for infrastructure, industrial, transportation, and community projects
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and regulatory applications under experienced engineers' guidance
- Conduct field investigations, site assessments, surveys, construction inspections, and post-construction monitoring
- Support regulatory approvals, permitting, and instream construction planning
- Coordinate with drafting and GIS staff on figures, base plans, mapping, and design drawings
- Support project delivery and collaborate with engineers, scientists, environmental specialists, clients, regulators, contractors, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders
- Develop technical skills and professional judgment through mentorship and increasing responsibility
Requirements
What you’ll need- Field work may account for approximately 5 to 30% of your time
- A bachelor's degree in Civil, Water Resources, or Environmental Engineering
- 0 to 2 years of relevant experience in water resources engineering; relevant co-op, internship, field, or project experience will be considered
- Eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA
- Understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, open-channel flow, and stormwater or drainage systems
- Interest in river engineering, watercourse crossings, flood assessment, stormwater management, natural channel design, or related water resources work
- Willingness to undertake field work and travel as required, including work at active construction sites
- Valid class 5 driver's license with no restrictions
- Ability to meet physical and environmental requirements, including overhead lifting of over 20 pounds and outdoor work in extreme weather conditions
- Safety-sensitive positions require pre-employment, pre-access, and potentially random alcohol and drug testing, as well as driver's abstract reviews
