About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Propose and execute power systems engineering and R&D projects
- Support technical, business development and sales teams with specialized expertise on power system real-time simulation
- Mentor the technical team to raise skill levels in power system real-time simulation
- Provide feedback on and support pre-release testing and validation of OPAL-RT’s power systems simulation tools
- Write and present technical papers on power systems simulation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ph. D. degree in electrical engineering or relevant field
- Alternatively, master’s degree with 5+ years of academic/industrial research experience in power systems simulation
- At least 5 years of hands-on real-time simulation of power systems simulation
- Strong understanding of power system simulation, including applications, modeling and numerical methods
- Strong experience with power systems simulation tools such as OPAL-RT’s eHS, PLECS and SPS, or OPAL-RT’s HYPERSIM, RT-LAB and PSCAD
- Strong experience with MATLAB, Simulink and relevant toolboxes for power systems simulation
- Understanding of FPGA implementation concepts for numerical methods and algorithms for power system simulation
- Strong oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to inspire confidence and gain buy-in through expertise and clear technical reasoning
- Strong problem-solving, design, analytical skills and out-of-the-box thinking
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Proficient at writing process documentation
- Highly autonomous and proactive in identifying improvements
- Hardware and interfacing experience for hardware-in-the-loop testing of power electronic controllers is an asset
- French and/or German are a plus
