About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the engineering organization and oversee engineering team managers
Report directly to the COO and represent Engineering to executive leadership
Set technical direction, engineering vision, architecture, and technology strategy
Recruit, develop, and retain engineers while scaling the team
Build a low-ego, high-ownership engineering culture
Establish CI/CD and QA practices governing how software is built, tested, and deployed
Identify blockers and execute plans to improve efficiency and engineering excellence
Partner with AI and Analytics leadership to deliver reliable, production-grade software
Collaborate with Product leadership on vision, roadmap, prioritization, and tradeoffs
Provide executive progress reports, flag risks early, and set realistic timelines
Participate in customer, partner, and investor conversations as a technical representative
Implement processes, metrics, and operating rhythms to improve delivery speed and predictability
Own engineering career pathing, headcount, vendors, and cloud spend
Ensure security, data privacy, and compliance standards meet enterprise customer expectations

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of engineering experience
3+ years of managing managers
Significant experience designing and building production systems
Experience leading a dynamic engineering organization in a scaling technical or startup environment
Experience making technical decisions that guide engineering organizations
Experience building and scaling B2B SaaS, ideally with enterprise customers
Experience directing ongoing SOC 2 compliance standards
Strong problem-solving and architecture expertise
Up-to-date knowledge of emerging tools and technical trends
Ability to collaborate and communicate across engineering, product, AI/analytics, leadership, executives, and customers
Experience earning trust and building consensus within teams with existing managers
Experience with logistics, transportation systems, or similar complex operational domains is a bonus
Familiarity with Optimal Dynamics' technology stack is a bonus
Proficiency or familiarity with AWS, DynamoDB, Aurora, SSM, SQS, Python 3, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Trino, Dagster, dbt, DuckDB, Preset, Terraform, Spacelift, Bazel, GitHub, AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeBuild, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI Codex, and GitHub Copilot
