About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work independently across multiple legal practice areas, focusing on commercial and regulatory issues
- Build Orchard’s products and services in compliance with residential real estate legal and regulatory frameworks
- Negotiate and structure complex commercial contracts, partnerships, and joint ventures
- Support real estate brokerage, mortgage, title, and closing services business lines and expand them into additional states
- Develop compliant policies, controls, and structures for business lines
- Partner with Product and Engineering teams to design and iterate customer products and services
- Balance innovation and growth with legal and regulatory risk
- Build relationships with state regulators regarding expansion, operational compliance, inquiries, and examinations
- Manage outside law firms while balancing cost and effectiveness
- Lead development and improvement of Data Privacy and Information Security policies, practices, and procedures
- Potentially participate in equity and debt financings and strategic M&A transactions
- Report to the General Counsel
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7-12 years of experience in the commercial and/or regulatory space
- Experience gained ideally through a combination of law firm and in-house roles of increasing visibility and responsibility
- Solid experience with commercial contracts, including leading negotiations or discussions with large companies
- Experience negotiating and structuring partnerships and joint ventures
- Experience with Data Privacy regimes and implementation of related policies and procedures
- Experience with laws and regulatory frameworks related to real estate brokerage and/or mortgage lending is a plus, but not required
- Prior experience with a real estate brokerage or mortgage company is a plus, but not required
- Experience navigating evolving and overlapping regulations in a business context
- Ability to work independently with little guidance and escalate issues when needed
- State bar admission in good standing
