About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review and evaluate CVC applications and supporting documentation to determine eligibility under Oregon statutes and administrative rules
  • Interpret and apply Oregon Revised Statutes Chapter 147, Oregon Administrative Rules, and the Oregon Criminal Code
  • Manage approximately 2,000 active claims annually throughout their life cycle
  • Communicate with applicants, medical providers, law enforcement, advocates, and community partners by phone and email
  • Compose administrative orders, requests for information, and inquiry responses
  • Evaluate reconsideration requests and respond to applicants
  • Assist with preparation and defense of claims appealed to the Workers’ Compensation Board, including testifying when necessary
  • Authorize payments of up to $47,000 per claim for eligible crime-related expenses
  • Evaluate medical documentation, treatment costs, chart notes, and treatment plans
  • Explain application decisions, services, program processes, funding limits, and compensation requests
  • Provide documentation and testify at restitution hearings virtually or in person
  • Rotate as Examiner of the Day and provide coverage for other examiners and claims specialists
  • Provide administrative support and training to staff, claims examiners, and service providers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Two years of full-time experience determining eligibility for benefits and/or verifying, validating, analyzing, and/or evaluating information such as police reports, medical and psychological assessments, treatment plans, diagnosis and outcomes, income and tax records, and/or insurance plans
  • Oregon driver's license, which must be maintained
  • Experience navigating criminal justice, victim advocacy, social services, healthcare or public programs supporting trauma-impacted individuals and coordinating across multiple partners
  • Training and applied experience in trauma-informed practices, crisis response, domestic/sexual violence work, cultural humility, equity, and anti-racism principles
  • Experience communicating with individuals experiencing trauma or crisis while maintaining clarity, professionalism, and appropriate boundaries
  • Experience evaluating complex or conflicting documentation to make eligibility or case determinations
  • Experience interpreting and applying statutes, administrative rules, policies, or other technical criteria
  • Experience drafting or editing policy, administrative rule language, legal summaries, or similar technical materials
  • Experience working with sensitive or traumatic information while sustaining consistent, high-quality work
  • Bilingual Spanish is a bonus
