About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review intake questionnaires and determine whether allegations qualify for a formal civil rights complaint
  • Contact and interview complainants to gather details, clarify facts, and assess discrimination or retaliation allegations
  • Apply civil rights protections and relevant state and federal laws
  • Determine whether complaints should be drafted
  • Prepare legally sufficient complaint documents for further investigation
  • Track statutes of limitations and ensure timely filing
  • Assist with sending complaint forms and processing documentation
  • Respond to complex public inquiries
  • Support outreach and public presentations about BOLI services as needed
  • Communicate with coworkers and supervisors through chat, video calls, conference calls, and telephone
  • Occasionally travel to job sites across Oregon

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Two years of experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) related to the class concept, including collection and analysis of facts and making recommendations
  • Experience interpreting and applying protected-leave laws to evaluate legal jurisdiction and filing criteria
  • Ability to interview complainants in sensitive, emotional, or high-stress situations while maintaining professionalism, neutrality, and accuracy
  • Experience reviewing evidence or questionnaires and drafting clearly, legally sufficient complaints and documentation with exceptional precision and writing quality
  • Ability to analyze complex civil rights allegations and determine jurisdiction under state and federal law
  • Skill in interviewing complainants to gather facts, clarify allegations, and assess whether a formal complaint should be drafted
  • Experience drafting clear, legally sufficient civil rights complaints, summaries, and related documentation
  • Ability to review questionnaires, evidence, and timelines to ensure statutory deadlines and rights are protected
  • Strong communication skills, including delivering accurate guidance to the public
  • Bilingual skills are preferred but not required
  • Must complete Form I-9 within three days of hire and present valid US work-authorization documents
  • BOLI does not provide visa sponsorship
