About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and support a team of legal support staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and addressing performance and workplace concerns
  • Assess training needs and ensure staff have the tools and guidance to grow and meet Trial Division expectations
  • Oversee and direct daily administrative, clerical, and paraprofessional work supporting attorneys
  • Support the Criminal and Collateral Remedies Section, Special Litigation Unit, and Federal Oversight Unit
  • Ensure efficient workflows, consistent processes, and high-quality service delivery
  • Participate in case staffing and review work for accuracy, documentation, and proper application of rules, procedures, and laws
  • Manage workload distribution, adjust assignments, and support long-term planning
  • Coordinate with partner agencies, courts, vendors, and other DOJ units
  • Review paraprofessional billing, monitor expenditures, and help track budget needs and resource priorities
  • Assist with administrative work during peak periods or staffing shortages
  • Develop and implement plans supporting the agency’s affirmative action goals and objectives
  • Create work environments where individual and cultural differences are valued

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Three years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR a bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Have and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license
  • Preference may be given to those with two years of experience as a high-level legal support professional
  • Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization effectively and professionally
  • Professional experience working collaboratively with a team
  • Experience assessing and coaching individuals to meet production and work quality goals
  • Experience collaborating, teambuilding, troubleshooting, and finding solutions to operational needs in a team environment
  • Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Office
  • Experience providing accuracy and attention to detail in work performance
  • Must meet the highest standards of professional conduct and ethics
