About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide strategic leadership and direct supervision to legal secretaries and paralegals supporting the Corrections Litigation Unit and Civil Litigation Section
- Supervise the Legal Support Services Supervisor 1 and indirectly oversee professional support staff in additional litigation and oversight units
- Manage daily operations of a fast-paced legal office, including workflow, performance expectations, and case progress
- Handle hiring, performance management, coaching, and discipline for the legal support team
- Identify training needs, provide development opportunities, and contribute to Trial Division-wide training
- Collaborate with Trial Division leadership on employee issues, staffing, and planning
- Oversee clerical, administrative, and paraprofessional work for assigned sections
- Review paraprofessional work, documentation, evidence, and exhibits for accuracy and legal sufficiency; participate in case staffing with attorneys
- Manage workload distribution and coordinate workflow with courts and partner agencies
- Review paraprofessional billing, monitor office budget activity, compile data, prepare management reports, and recommend resource allocations
- Perform administrative tasks during peak periods or urgent needs and assist with complex or sensitive operational work
- Develop and implement affirmative action plans and foster respectful, inclusive work environments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Four years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR one year of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Have and maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license
- Preference may be given to those with two years of experience as a high-level legal support professional
- Knowledge and experience in Civil and/or Corrections Litigation
- Experience providing leadership to both supervisory and represented employees
- Direct high-level management or supervision of legal support professionals
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels of the organization
- Professional experience working collaboratively with a team
- Experience assessing and coaching individuals to meet production and work quality goals
- Experience collaborating, teambuilding, troubleshooting, and finding solutions to operational needs in a team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software
- Experience providing accuracy and attention to detail in work performance
- Ability to work in the Salem or Portland, Oregon office
