About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership and direction for statewide programs and all region employees
- Develop and implement short- and long-term transportation plans and emergency event plans with internal and external partners
- Direct plan development, program development, program management, project design, construction contracts, maintenance and operations
- Oversee personal services, projects, budgets and spending
- Monitor maintenance and operations conditions and construction projects through routine tours and crew engagement
- Manage delivery of capital improvement and other projects
- Coordinate with local governments, the public, state representatives and media to gather information and set priorities
- Guide the region’s management team and oversee personnel actions, performance management and budget administration
- Represent the region at meetings, respond to questions or concerns, and communicate with internal and external partners
- Remain on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays
- Travel extensively within the region and statewide
Requirements
What you’ll need- Seven years of management experience in transportation infrastructure development and project delivery; OR four years of such management experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field
- Valid U.S. driver license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to provide leadership and direction for statewide programs and region employees
- Experience or ability in strategic leadership, creativity and solutions, consensus-building, team approaches, employee development, coaching and mentoring
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state and local officials and the public
- Considerable travel within the region and statewide in all types of weather
- Ability to be on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays
- No visa sponsorship; must be able to complete the U.S. Department of Homeland Security I-9 confirming authorization to work in the U.S.
- Cover letter limited to no more than two pages and addressing the specified qualities
