About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and advance communication and promotional efforts for coastal courses and experiential learning opportunities
  • Collaborate with MACO staff, Hatfield Marine Science Center, and university partners on communication goals and storytelling
  • Create content through photography, video, interviews, and written materials
  • Synthesize content into print, digital, web, and promotional materials
  • Plan and manage communication projects, priorities, timelines, deadlines, and media files
  • Maintain coastal learning resources and promotional materials, including course rosters, faculty resources, promotional materials, and Hatfield tour and Admissions materials
  • Follow OSU branding and digital accessibility standards while using photography, videography, graphic design, web, and digital communication tools
  • Support coastal experiential learning activities and logistics, including materials development, course and field-experience facilitation, and activity documentation
  • Drive a University vehicle when scheduling permits
  • Participate in MACO outreach and engagement activities in Corvallis and at Hatfield, including prospective and new student events, World Ocean Day, and tours
  • Provide peer advising and student-to-student support through MACO’s Peer Advising Program
  • Engage professionally with students, faculty, staff, and community members and connect them with appropriate resources
  • Develop leadership and professional skills through student employee training, professional development, and increasing responsibility
  • Report directly to the MACO Academic Development Coordinator

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible
  • Must meet applicable minimum enrollment standards
  • Must be a current undergraduate student at Oregon State University at the time of hire and throughout the position
  • Demonstrated interest in marine or coastal studies, marine biology, ocean conservation, aquatic biology or ecology, environmental sciences, experiential education, or a related field
  • Knowledge of MACO’s mission, programs, and communication resources
  • Current or prior experience as a student resident at Hatfield Marine Science Center
  • Prior experience as a student employee supporting experiential learning at Hatfield Marine Science Center
  • Experience developing communication or promotional materials, such as flyers, webpages, digital content, presentations, social media content, or other student-facing materials
  • Experience with photography, videography, interviewing, graphic design, and/or basic photo and video editing
  • Knowledge of and prior experience using OSU branding, digital accessibility, and communication standards
  • Proficiency with Canva, Microsoft Office, and common communication and collaboration platforms
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to independently manage and prioritize projects, demonstrate initiative and attention to detail, and seek guidance when appropriate
  • Ability to contribute creative ideas, receive and apply feedback, collaborate effectively as part of a team, and adapt to changing priorities
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive University 6- and 12-passenger vehicles
  • Must successfully complete a criminal history check and Motor Vehicle History Check
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in the state of residence
  • Preferred: Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Drupal, or other relevant design, web, photo, or video editing platforms
  • Preferred: Experience developing or maintaining webpages and web-based communication resources
  • Preferred: Experience with student outreach, peer advising, experiential learning programs, or student-facing events
  • Preferred: Experience collaborating on projects with multiple partners
  • Preference for OSU undergraduate students with at least one year remaining in their degree pathway
