About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, undertake, and manage ecological surveys on large-scale and complex projects
- Travel to projects around the island of Ireland, including remote locations
- Collect, analyse, and interpret complex ecological data using advanced ecological survey equipment, GIS, and other tools
- Lead technical report preparation, including EcIA, AA, and Biodiversity Plans
- Review deliverables, address feedback, and provide expert ecological advice to clients and stakeholders
- Manage complex projects by resolving budget, resource, and time issues
- Communicate with the team, clients, relevant stakeholders, and the public
- Line-manage direct reports, including resourcing, performance, and HR needs
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to ecology staff
- Engage in CPD and lead training
- Support technical research, standards, and tendering tasks
Requirements
What you’ll need- A degree in ecology, natural science or a related biological discipline
- Postgraduate degree advantageous but not essential
- Membership of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) desirable
- Breadth and depth of experience in ecological field surveying, data analysis and interpretation, and ecological impact assessment, including on large-scale and complex projects
- Good knowledge of relevant EU and Irish planning and environmental legislation and case law, and the planning process
- Experience in leading and mentoring staff
- Project, budget and time management experience
- Full driving licence
- Access to a car
- Flexibility to travel and work across Ireland, including occasional overnight stays
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Professional and approachable communication with colleagues and clients
- Self-motivated, organised, and conscientious approach
