About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and deliver complex ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation across development, infrastructure, conservation, and biodiversity enhancement projects
  • Provide technical expertise
  • Manage projects and client relationships
  • Mentor junior staff
  • Conduct Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs)
  • Conduct protected species surveys, including bats, GCN, reptiles, and badgers
  • Prepare ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, and mitigation plans
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, planning policy, and best practice guidance
  • Liaise with clients, planning authorities, conservation bodies, and other stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant consultancy experience
  • Demonstrable ability to provide clear, succinct and robust technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and protected species surveys
  • Thorough knowledge of wildlife legislation and the planning system
  • Confidence in providing technical advice to clients
  • Full range of survey skills including habitat surveys and protected species surveys
  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) experience
  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver contracts on time and to budget
  • Client-focused approach with understanding of the commercial element of projects
  • Full driving license
  • Full membership with CIEEM (desirable)
  • Experience writing Environmental Statement (ES) chapters and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs) (desirable)
  • Experience writing European Protected Species Licence (EPSL) applications, preferably held in your name (desirable)
  • QGIS skills (desirable)
