About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide general engineering support for plant operations and maintenance
  • Develop plant operation and maintenance procedures
  • Troubleshoot plant systems and equipment
  • Develop and participate in plant schedules and preventive maintenance
  • Support plant safety, inventory, efficiency, performance monitoring, and improvement initiatives
  • Develop and implement field projects
  • Support revenue improvement and cost reduction
  • Understand and perform battery start-up, shutdown, and emergency operations
  • Perform routine and non-routine preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Conduct plant rounds, log equipment parameters, and adjust equipment as required
  • Coordinate contractors and internal resources
  • Requisition and assist with ordering and receiving plant materials
  • Represent the company with vendors and regulators
  • Implement assigned emergency and safety procedures
  • Work with contractors and temporary labor during onsite activities
  • Use test equipment, technical manuals, system drawings, and electrical schematics to troubleshoot systems
  • Program and troubleshoot field equipment
  • Maintain equipment-operation trend reports and complete plant reports
  • Perform other assigned duties and projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma with at least two years of technical training in operations and routine maintenance of battery storage, power plants, and four years of experience working in a power plant or equivalent environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of operating a power plant or battery storage facility
  • Knowledge/background operating and maintaining mechanical and/or electrical systems
  • Familiarity with basic internetworking protocol and remote communication constructs for telemetry with RTUs
  • Knowledge of PLC-based instrumentation and control systems
  • Preferred working knowledge of power electronics in a utility or similar operating environment
  • Preferred knowledge of utility industry measurement and verification standards
  • Ability to understand engineering design drawings, vendor equipment drawings, and technical information
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and test equipment used in a power plant environment
  • Thorough knowledge of plant hazards and safety requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of computer-based preventive maintenance programs
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other programs
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license
  • Ability to make long-term and instantaneous decisions and solve problems with attention to detail
  • Ability to balance competing priorities
  • Familiarity with standard power plant PPE and proper use
  • Available for off-shift call-in
  • Able to work independently and be the only company person on site
  • Able to travel to other company sites
  • Able to operate a vehicle safely and read and understand maps
  • Able to travel overnight approximately 25% of the time
  • Able to climb ladders and work off elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways
  • Able to work in confined spaces and harsh weather conditions
  • Able to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Able to wear protective equipment
  • Able to sit and/or stand for long periods with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • Able to work at a computer and monitor for long periods and stay alert
