About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct scientific and technical reviews of research proposals, including proposals involving data, samples and participant re-contact
- Apply clinical trials expertise to assess scientific and technical suitability and identify potential issues
- Make independent and pragmatic judgements on research proposals, amendments and access-related queries, escalating where appropriate
- Support oversight and management of the research access process
- Maintain oversight of approved studies throughout their lifecycle, including amendments, annual study reports and publications
- Support the Access Governance Manager and wider Access team in developing guidance and training and responding to researcher queries
- Identify potentially overlapping or duplicate studies and facilitate scientifically driven collaborations
- Contribute to development of policies, procedures and ways of working
- Collaborate with Access, Science, Technology and Product teams to support programme aims
Requirements
What you’ll need- A postgraduate degree in life sciences with experience in a postgraduate research environment, a medical degree with experience in epidemiological or clinical research, or equivalent relevant experience
- Demonstrable experience working with clinical trials and a strong understanding of clinical trial research and associated scientific considerations
- Experience undertaking scientific research and reviewing research proposals within comparable research programmes or other relevant organisations
- Ability to critically assess research proposals and make independent, pragmatic judgements on proposals, amendments and access-related queries
- Experience of governance processes within health research, for example within an academic, NHS, industry or charity setting
- Knowledge of relevant external authorities and regulatory agencies within health research
- Awareness of ethical and legal issues relating to genetics and genomics, handling and storage of human tissue, and access to personal and health data
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and researchers from a range of disciplines and professional backgrounds
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities and work to appropriate review timelines
- Practical and collaborative approach to navigating complex or uncertain scientific and research governance issues
