About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Create cloud platforms to support Our Future Health as it scales
  • Work with engineering and operations teams to define platform requirements
  • Build the platform iteratively, starting simple and increasing complexity
  • Help define development processes as part of a new, growing team
  • Own solutions from conception through deployment and ongoing operation, including on-call rotas where necessary
  • Integrate and deploy third-party tools required by other teams
  • Devise solutions for technical problems involving distributed systems, scale and security
  • Translate technical ideas into designs and implementation
  • Implement best practices for availability, scalability, operational excellence and efficiency
  • Build platforms supporting participant-facing websites and the processing, de-identification and sharing of high-volume health, NHS and genetic datasets into accredited Trusted Research Environments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High proficiency in cloud DevOps/platform engineering and large-scale live services using Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Hands-on experience developing infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, OpenTofu, Terragrunt or Pulumi, following GitOps practices
  • Strong experience coding and automating tasks in a high-level language, preferably Python
  • Hands-on experience with unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, debugging and troubleshooting
  • Experience building/deploying tools related to data pipelines and ETL processes
  • Confidence with cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker
  • Experience deploying open-source technologies such as Python, Node.JS, Ruby and Postgres, and related CI/CD pipelines
  • Good understanding of cloud security best practices and security compliance
  • Experience designing, supporting and troubleshooting production systems at scale
  • Good understanding of technology stacks from networks up to applications
  • Experience working in an agile methodology, including code reviews and pairing
  • Experience in a commercial regulated domain is a bonus, such as clinical, wearables, consumer apps, genomics or pharma
