About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Direct a team of writers and editors
Assign work and manage the publication schedule
Own the publication calendar and story pipeline across written formats
Set deadlines and follow up when interns miss them
Manage and revise “How-To” documents for publishing processes
Chair weekly standing editorial meetings
Attend Leadership and All-Staff meetings and provide updates
Help HR recruit, interview, and onboard new contributors
Train new editors and writers and establish standards for sourcing, process, and format
Safeguard ONC’s nonpartisan positioning and branding
Coordinate with Media & Marketing on joint projects
Coordinate and develop other people more than producing original content

Requirements

What you’ll need

Writing or editing experience in any setting: professional, academic, student publication, or news organization
Ability to edit for argument and structure, in addition to grammar and style
Experience coordinating a group toward a deadline
Comfort giving direction and holding people to their commitments
Sound judgment about sourcing, attribution, and factual accuracy
Demonstrated follow-through on sustained commitments
Resume and cover letter required for application
Cover letter of 500 words or fewer
Cover letter must address experience, a time leading or coordinating a team project, availability over the next few months, and two changes to ONC’s Editorial Team
