About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support New Product Introduction through development builds, ramp-up, mass production, and steady-state expansion, focusing on CMF surfaces and finishes
  • Translate CMF Design direction into manufacturable, scalable, quality-controlled production processes
  • Own and maintain master color/material standards, golden samples, and build units throughout product development
  • Develop and implement quality systems, control plans, and measurement methods for coatings and surface treatments
  • Lead CMF quality build-readiness reviews, including equipment readiness, process qualification, and post-build cosmetic and finish data analysis
  • Identify and communicate CMF-specific process risks using data-driven approaches
  • Establish cosmetic and finish specification limits and corresponding process control limits
  • Review color and finish targets, schedules, and sample status with CMF Designers and process engineers
  • Scale suppliers and processes to meet production goals, yield targets, line capacity, process capability, equipment, and headcount requirements
  • Conduct supplier audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives for CMF performance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years of experience in Supplier Manufacturing Quality Engineering, Process Engineering, or CMF/Surface Finishing Engineering
  • Direct exposure to coatings, platings, or surface treatment processes
  • Experience working with final assembly factories and mechanical enclosures and/or electronics suppliers
  • Experience in supplier quality engineering in high volume handheld/wearable and/or consumer products with high cosmetic standards
  • Experience qualifying and auditing PVD, anodization, electroplating, laser texturing/etching, soft-touch/soft-feel coatings, and painting
  • Deep knowledge of color science, colorimetry, spectrophotometry, Delta-E, and gloss/sheen measurement
  • Knowledge of GRR, SPC, FA/CA, 8D, FMEA, DOEs, adhesion/tape-pull testing per ASTM D3359, salt spray/corrosion resistance, abrasion and wear resistance, and thermal shock testing
  • Understanding of DFM, SOP, GD&T, Six Sigma, and LEAN manufacturing principles
  • Ability to manage physical samples, master standards, and documentation across concurrent programs
  • Ability to communicate complex CMF and quality concepts to designers, engineers, and manufacturing partners
  • Ability to establish systems that capture reliable and meaningful data
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%
  • Candidates must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to come into the office 3 days per week
