About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform hands-on testing with cameras, lenses, lighting, and other machine vision components
  • Build and evaluate vision configurations for customer applications and internal projects
  • Run application tests and produce clear, timely technical reports
  • Assess new components and technologies and determine whether they improve systems
  • Test, troubleshoot, deploy, and provide technical problem-solving support for local customers in the field
  • Collect images, label data, train models, and evaluate AI-based inspection systems
  • Build internal test setups, resources, and documentation for the Applications team
  • Conduct camera calibration, develop optical configurations, and evaluate hardware
  • Split time between the lab and live customer applications, including lens evaluation, camera setup optimization, proof-of-concept development, and production-line troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with Sales, Product, and Engineering and work directly with manufacturing customers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 1 to 3+ years in machine vision, computer vision, applications engineering, robotics, automation, manufacturing, or a related field
  • Strong hands-on grasp of machine vision fundamentals: cameras, lenses, optics, lighting, and image acquisition
  • Familiarity with lens types, including telecentric lenses
  • Working understanding of AI-based vision and differences from traditional rules-based vision
  • Familiarity with image labeling, model training, classification, object detection, and segmentation
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts and a logical, experimental approach to technical problems
  • Comfortable working hands-on with hardware and testing approaches independently
  • Able to document and communicate technical findings clearly
  • Eager to learn new technologies, including industrial automation and PLCs
  • Based in San Francisco, working primarily from the office, with occasional travel to customer sites
  • Experience with industrial machine vision systems in production preferred
  • Experience selecting or evaluating cameras, lenses, lighting, or optical components preferred
  • Hands-on experience with AI or deep learning inspection systems preferred
  • Experience building proof-of-concept systems or running feasibility studies preferred
  • Exposure to PLCs, industrial controls, or manufacturing automation preferred
  • Experience working directly with manufacturing customers preferred
